Our April Featured Skater is all smiles on the track – even when she is giving someone a powerful block, and for that we love her! Madame Muerta is a Dirty Jersey Blocker as well as a board trustee.
What made you start derby?
I wanted to play roller derby since I was a little kid, but I didn’t know of any local derby teams until a couple of years ago, so when I found one, I decided to give it a shot.
What was the hardest part of passing your minimum skills test?
The hardest thing for me to pass was and is, jumping. I sprained my ankle practicing for that part of the test, and even though I can do it, it is still a mental challenge for me.
What was your first bout like?
I felt like I was going to have a panic attack before it started, since I had never played a team sport before, but by halftime I was just super excited to actually be playing.
How long have you been playing derby?
2 years.
What is your favorite part about derby?
I love to skate, it makes me happy.
What is your least favorite part?
When I get mad at myself for having a bad practice.
What is your derby goal for next year?
I would like to become a more agile blocker.
What do you do for a living?
I am an Art Teacher.
