Our July skater of the month is none other than Rebel Elle!
A recent addition to the DJRD roster, she is dedicated, hard-working and always has great team spirit. She is truly an “idol” – on and off the track!
What made you start derby?
A friend of mine (Thunder) asked me if I played sports when I was younger and if I would be interested in playing roller derby while we were at a Halloween party. Apparently, I had enough drinks to agree 😉
What was the hardest part of passing your minimum skills test?
Skills pertaining to footwork and passing my 27 in 5 (I just passed recently with 28 1/3 laps after 17 months)
What was your first bout like?
I anticipated it to be terrifying, but once I was on the track it was more fun than I expected and I loved playing!
How long have you been playing derby?
I just reached 17 months since I started, or 1.5 seasons.
What is your favorite part of derby?
I love being part of a team and the camaraderie. Everyone has been supportive and welcoming.
What is your least favorite part?
The bruises and pain that come from my relative lack of physical fitness. It is getting easier as I get better, but it has been a slow and steady road for me.
What is your derby goal for the next year?
Originally it was to roster, but now that I have I want to become a solid teammate.
What do you do for a living?
I am an accountant for an advertising agency.
How old are you?
I am 39 years old and will be 40 this summer.
What are your interests outside of derby?
I love to travel, spend time with friends and experience as much of life as possible.
